Remotely piloted vehicles have been a core part of the US Army operations. According to Larm (1996), Remotely Piloted Vehicles provides efficient means in dealing with various military expeditions hence promoting successful operations. Remote Piloted Vehicles could be classified into Remote Controlled Aircraft (RCA) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Remote Controlled Aircraft refers to a commercial remote controlled aircraft used by the Army in various operations while the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are military hardware that supports significant operations. Larm (1996) asserts that Remote Controlled Vehicles have been of advantage in the USA Army because of the diverse uses and effective means of operations. For instance, the vehicles effectively operate in all environments, are lighter and smaller; thus, providing high speed operations, it involves the use of sophisticated technology that promotes military activities, that are cheaper compared to manned vehicles, and they are secure as they reduce the number of deaths during attacks. On the other hand, Larm (1996) asserts that Remotely Piloted Vehicles could at times be affected by adverse climatic conditions hence making them ineffective in operations.
This paper explicates the advantages emanating from the use of Remotely Piloted Vehicles and the counter-argument to these advantages.
According to the US Department of Homeland (2004), the USA Army has enjoyed using Remotely Piloted vehicles, as they are lighter and smaller providing for high speed and accurate operations. Speed and accuracy are essential in the operations of the USA Army. Enemy attacks are easily responded to as they occur. The Remotely Piloted Vehicles are made up with technologically designed materials that ensure faster response to various situations. The U.S. Air Force (2005) points out that these materials play an effective role in reducing the weight per unit of the Remotely Piloted Vehicles, which in turn increases their speed. In addition, accuracy is achieved through the speedy operations facilitated by the components of the vehicle. Accuracy is achieved through the new data links that have been developed on the Remotely Piloted Vehicles as they ensure continued monitoring. This has been effective in reaching the targeted areas without destroying other vital components. These vehicles have composite materials that improve their propulsion systems leading to lighter, stealthy airframes, and smaller parts that help minimize the levels of fuel consumption among the vehicles. According to the US Department of Homeland (2004), this ensures that speed and accuracy are achieved using as less fuel as possible using the cheaper machines. Thus, Remotely Piloted Vehicles have been effective in the USA Army operations as they are lighter in weight promoting high speed and accuracy.
The US Department of Homeland (2004) points out that Remotely Piloted Vehicles are usable in all conditions hence making it easier for the US Army to respond to enemies at all times. Remotely Controlled Vehicles could be used in environments contaminated with chemicals, radioactive agents, and biological changes. In addition, they work in extremely high altitudes that cannot be accessed by the manly-operated vehicles. The power to brave all conditions makes the Remotely Piloted Vehicles most effective in dealing with various situations from all positions. This ensures that the Army is able to attack enemies from a high altitude area ensuring that they are cleared without causing damage. The USA Army is also able to use the vehicles in various operations that involve chemical or radioactive attacks as the vehicles are not affected. This ensures that there are continued operations in the course of responding to enemy attacks. According to the U.S. Air Force (2005), the Remote Controlled Aircrafts and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are able to ensure most of the harsh conditions, which ensure that there is sustained operations and support of vital military missions. This is because they ensure there is a continued operation at excessively high altitudes and lower areas that cannot be reached by manly-operated vehicles. The USA Army is able to use the vehicle in unlimited measures making all the core activities effective. Enemies have been dealt with in all environmental conditions by ensuring that there are effective operations in the entire country.
They are the most secure means of carrying out military operations among the USA Army. According to the U.S. Air Force (2005), Remotely Piloted Vehicles ensure that there is continued protection of pilots during military expeditions. Highly qualified and experienced pilots can be rescued from uncertain deaths emanating from military operations, as they are so effective in their activities. They are the most secure means of military operations, because they do not necessarily require the services of a pilot to run the vehicle. Remote technology is the principal mode of propelling and guiding the vehicle to various destinations. Thus, Remotely Piloted Vehicles have been effective in reducing fatalities among the US Army members. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ensure that a pilot is secure from all forms of enemy attacks. This helps in the protection and preservation of quality human life. Military professionals are also protected from enemy attacks that would lead to loss of lives. These vehicles also support photography; thus, ensuring that enemy hideouts are determined and effective measures taken to fights against their upcoming attacks. Therefore, the vehicles further promote security of the entire USA Army as it continues to use these vehicles. It does not involve the use of humans as pilots, but involves the use of effective remote controllers that promote effective working and secure means of operations.
According to the US Department of Homeland (2004), Remotely Piloted Vehicles are cheaper to operate and manage due to the lower costs they involve. The US Department of Homeland (2004) points out that the production of such vehicles is cheaper as there are only few costs involved. The system costs and the materials used in the production of such vehicles are cheaper compared to the Manned Aircrafts. This ensures that the costs involved in coming up with such a vehicle are reduced significantly. The operating, maintenance, and training costs associated with the vehicles are significantly lower because of the emphasis on simulators. The cheaper costs ensure that the USA Army is able to use the costs in other developmental areas. The U.S. Air Force (2005) points out that the cheaper costs incurred in the operation of Remotely Piloted Vehicles emanate from the fact that it does not involve the hire of pilots to run the vehicles. It only requires cheaper remote technology that is easily controlled by the Army. Cheaper costs also emanate from the lesser fuel costs that are involved in the maintenance of the vehicle. It does not utilize excess fuel, and this ensures that these costs are saved and used for other vital purposes. All these reduced expenses ensure that the entire running costs of the vehicle are cheaper hence promoting efficiency. The cheaper operational costs ensure that there is adequate dedication of resources to other vital areas of research and development.
On the other hand, Larm (1996) points out that Remotely Piloted Vehicles could at times be affected by the extreme climatic conditions such as undesirable altitudes and excessive terrible weather. According to the US Department of Homeland (2004), Remotely Piloted Vehicles are not solely efficient and advantageous in the uses. They would not be accurate in cases where they are exposed to unbearable environmental conditions. Larm (1996) asserts that the effect of adverse environmental conditions retards the activities of the USA Army making it impossible to respond to some situations that could be urgent. This could lead to enemy attacks without effective response. Ineffective responses have played an instrumental role in the losses of both lives and property witnessed by the Army. The effect of excessively undesirable climatic conditions makes it difficult for the Army to locate enemy bases and picture them. The failure to locate enemy bases leads to surprise attacks due to lack of adequate information regarding enemy hideouts. Therefore, poor climatic conditions limit the vehicle from delivering the results desired by the Army. In fact, this discourages the Army from effectively coordinating its services and activities in selected areas.
In conclusion, the Remotely Controlled Vehicle is a technologically developed Army Aircraft used in various expeditions. It is classified into Unmanned Ariel Vehicles and Remotely Controlled Aircraft. This classification helps in enhancing the description and definition of the vehicle. The vitality of the vehicle makes the USA Army use it for the control of various operations in the country. The vehicle has made it easier for the Army to work under all prevailing conditions because of the flexibility and adaptability of the vehicle to all environmental conditions. The vehicle is able to access high altitude areas, extremely low altitude areas, and chemically affected conditions. This adaptability has been effective in ensuring that the Army carries out its activities in a coordinated manner. For instance, the vehicle has increased speed and accuracy as it light-weighted. Speed has been effective in ensuring that there is a quicker response to all the upcoming conditions. Larm (1996) further asserts that the vehicles involve cheaper operational and system costs, they are secure as they effectively protect individuals from enemy attacks, and they are usable in all environmental conditions making them effective in the USA Army operations. On the other hand, the US Department of Homeland (2004) has argued that these vehicles could be affected by adverse climatic conditions making them ineffective in supporting Army operations.
